Southeastern Schenectady County in east central New York... * Until 815 PM EDT. * At 223 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the warned area. Between 4 and 7 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 0.5 to 1 inch in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Rainfall rates have increased to between a half inch and one inch per hour, with significant runoff occurring. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 205 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 2 and 5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...The Greater Capital Region, the Lake George Saratoga Region, the northern Taconics including the Rensselaer Plateau, the mid Hudson Valley, eastern Catskills, southern and central Taconics and Helderbergs of eastern New York, Bennington and Windham Counties in southern Vermont, the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, and Litchfield County in northwestern Connecticut. * WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Periods of moderate to heavy rain and a few thunderstorms continue through this afternoon. Rainfall rates may reach as high as 1 to 2 inches per hour within the heaviest and most persistent downpours. Despite recent dry conditions, such high rainfall rates in a short period of time can result in flash flooding, especially in urban and poor drainage areas and where heavy rain repeatedly impacts a given area.
